GBC makes terrific comb binding machines and many of them are easy to use so you can create good-looking documents without a lot of effort. One of the company's newest machines is the CombBind C20 and it's actually one of their most user-friendly devices. This machine can bind documents that are up to 320 pages long and it even features on-board instructions to make operation a cinch. That said, here are the steps you need to take to successfully use the CombBind C20:
-
Lift the lid of the device and make sure the punching handle is raised. Adjust the edge guide button depending on what size paper you're using. This device can work with letter- and A4-sized paper, as well as oversized covers.
-
Start punching holes in your documents. The CombBind C20 has a vertical punching mechanism to ensure that the holes will be evenly centered. This device can punch up to 20 sheets at a time so you'll probably need to divide your document into smaller sections for punching. Don't forget to punch holes in your covers, as well. If you're using plastic covers, don't punch more than two at a time. Trying to punch more than two can weaken the punching dies over time.
-
After you paper has been punched, you need to choose a comb for your document. The CombBind C20 has a color-coded comb selector to help you out. This machine works with combs that are up to 1.5" in diameter. You can store extra ones in the device's comb storage tray.
-
Place the comb in the comb opener area. The comb should line up next to the white arrow and it should be placed behind the machine's metal teeth. Then open the comb by pulling the lever on the right side of the device. Don't open the comb too far as it makes it difficult to finish the binding process.
-
Once the comb has been opened, you can begin binding your document. Insert the comb's fingers through the holes in your paper. As with punching, splitting the paper into smaller sections is sometimes necessary. It makes binding much easier. When you're done, close the comb. You can repeat the process if you have more documents to bind.
-
When you're done binding, you should empty the chip tray. If the chip tray gets too full, the paper bits can begin to dull the punching dies. It also makes it more difficult to punch your documents. After the chip tray has been emptied, close the machine's lid and lower the punching handle for easy storage.
That's how you use the GBC CombBind C20. Don't forget that the device has on-board instructions that can come in handy if you get a little bit confused as you're preparing your documents. Also, you might want to do a few practice runs with this device so you can get good results when an important project comes up. As they always say, "practice makes perfect." Good luck!
